6TH MAY, 2017 This day will remain evergreen in the hearts of the 19 lovers of photography who keyed into the Photowalk initiative of Kola Onifoto. It’s the day Lagos island stood still.
Although it started off on a not so encouraging note, maybe that’s what we just needed to spur up the mood for the day as most of the potential participants began to back out owing to various reasons. Talk about passion for a cause, they are individuals who will let nothing come between them and their love for photography, as they began to troop in, in their groups and numbers.
The walk took off from the beautiful Tinubu Square and up to the the Carter bridge leading all through to Idumota market, to the Industrial layout and finally back to the starting point. The streets welcomed us with open arms, from the security personnel to food vendors to motorists to livestock to mechanics, they all wanted shots of them taken, we did and can’t get over some of the frozen captivating views and inspiring moments.
We had some issues with area boys and it almost led to a fight till Kola came and sparked up, it was eventually settled as all Lagosians want is money from you before you take pictures of them.. After about three hours of the walk and officially completing the maiden edition, we all retired to Freedom park, to unwind and network. Hence, the official maiden edition of Photo Walk With Kola was indeed a huge success. It’s a day which won’t be forgotten by most of us, at least not in so much of a hurry.
